Steve Jackowicz started studying martial arts at the age of eight and has never stopped. He has trained in a wide variety of approaches and has earned black belt / black sash or teacher certification in many arts including; Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Aikido, Japanese Jujitsu, Iaido, Kobudo, Dragon-Tiger Shaolin Kung Fu, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Shuai Jiao, Shi Ba Ji, Xing Yi Quan, Taiji Quan, Bagua Zhang, and Jeet Kune Do. He has also been certified by three international organizations in Qigong. He further has developed a unique approach to training practical self-defense known as Tactical Combative Approaches (TCA) focused on addressing the needs to the modern person for self-defense and security.
Sensei / Sifu Steve is a graduate of Harvard University where he dual concentrated (double-majored) in East Asian Languages and Civilizations and Folklore and Mythology. He then went on to study East Asian Medicine focusing on traditional Orthopedics including acupuncture, herbology, and bodywork, becoming the first foreign graduate from Hyundae Chimsulwon in Seoul Korea. Sensei / Sifu Steve returned to the U.S. and studied further for a Master’s Degree at the New England School of Acupuncture. He then went on to study for his Ph.D. at Boston University, examining the history and development of East Asian Medicine. His studies then took him to China and Japan where he attended advanced clinical trainings. He is finishing a second Ph.D. through Liaoning University of TCM. He has taught at the university level for over twenty years, and served as the Chair of the Doctoral Program in TCM at the University of Bridgeport for the past eight years. Sensei / Sifu Steve also taught at the University of Bridgeport’s Martial Arts Studies Department. He has taught Psychology of the Martial Arts, Sociology of the Martial Arts, Kinesiology of the Martial Arts, Anatomy of the Martial Arts, as well as coaching the university Judo Team. He has now retired to teach martial arts full time.
Sensei / Sifu Steve has taught martial arts for many years. He has taught students of all ages and physical capabilities. He has volunteered for 18 years with the Nassau County Police Activity League teaching Judo. He has also developed a Special Needs Karate Course through the PAL.
Sensei / Sifu Steve brings a wealth of experience and perspective to the martial arts. He has founded Classical Martial Arts of Long Island to provide the student a platform for the broad study of the physical, mental, ethical and moral aspects of the martial arts in a safe, fun, and enjoyable environment.
