At Classical Martial Arts of Long Island, we offer a diverse curriculum that is unmatched in the Nassau-Suffolk region. Our Programs include a variety of traditional Chinese and Japanese systems along with a special needs program, bully prevention, and general strength & conditioning training.
This is a blend of Karate, Jujitsu, Judo, and Aikido. The class focuses on martial approaches from Japan that use punches, kicks, throws, joint locks, and grappling groundwork. Additionally we study Kobudo and Iaido which are the ancient weapon arts of Japan, including the staff, sai, tonfa, kama, jo stick, spear, naginata, and sword.
This is the traditional approach of empty hand fighting that originated in Okinawa. This method focuses on strong blocking, striking, and kicking, with joint locks and takedowns. Our class draws on the Go Shin Do tradition, TuiTe tradition, and the Chang Hon Do traditions. This class is fast paced and dynamic with a high attention to precision and applicability.
This is the traditional approach developed by Jigoro Kano including the self-defense as well as sporting elements included in the Olympics. This class focuses mainly on grappling including throwing and ground fighting for pins and submissions. The class is an intense workout. It also includes some striking and kicking as part of the self-defense aspects of the art.
This is the traditional approach of the Japanese samurai for unarmed combat. This class includes training in the Yoshin Kan tradition, as well as the American Modern Jujitsu system. This class focuses on integrative self defense, including striking, kicking, joint locking, throws, take downs, ground fighting, and weapon disarms. This class is very physical and emphasizes fast effective responses to attacks.
This is the traditional approach developed by Morehei Uyeshiba derived from the battlefield arts of the samurai. This class includes training in the Uyeshiba approach, the Niikura approach, and the HapdoGoshin approach. This class focuses on defensive skills and joint locking, and throwing. The class is fast paced and dynamic emphasizing flow and continuity of action as a means of defense.
These are traditional weapon arts of Japan. Iaido is the art of the Japanese sword, which historically was one of the most sophisticated blades ever created. Bujitsu is the weapon arts of the samurai including the spear, naginata, bo staff, jo (stick,) and tanto (knife.) Kobudo is the ancient improvised weapons of the farming classes including the staff, tonfa, nunchaku, sai, kama, and kai. The training in these weapons helps balance, flexibility, concentration, and coordination. Additionally, the exact attention to detail in the Japanese weapons trains one to be precise in all aspects of life.
This is a blend of Shaolin Quanfa, Shuai Jiao, Chin Na, Yuanming Gong, and Xing Yi Quan. This class focuses on martial approaches from China that use punches, kicks, throws, joint locks, and grappling groundwork. Additionally we study Shi Ba Ji and Jian Dao which are the ancient weapons of China, including the staff, saber, fan, three section staff, rattan shield, Guan Dao, spear, and straight sword.
This is a traditional Southern Kung Fu style made popular by Bruce Lee and the Yip Man movies. This method is a no nonsense direct approach devoted to surviving a violent encounter. The class is taught in the traditional format with a very exacting approach. Wing Chun Kung Fu includes punches, kicks, joint locks, take downs, and weapons.
This is a traditional Chinese type of wrestling. This art focuses on throwing and take downs in concert with strategic strikes and kicks. This method dates into Chinese ancient history and is not well known outside of China. This class is an intense workout The class focuses on self-defense as well as competitive Chinese wrestling skills.
This is the traditional approach from the Qingcheng Mountain Tradition of China focused on flowing movements that correlate with the Eight Trigrams of the Yi Jing Book of Changes. This class includes training in the open hand methods, self-defense, joint locks, throws and takedowns, sparring, push hands, self-cultivation through meditation and breathing practices, and the eight traditional weapons; deer antler daggers, sun moon daggers, great sword, paired swords, whip, meteor hammers, chain whip, and great pole.
This is the traditional approach from the Qingcheng Mountain Tradition of China focused on flowing movements that correlate with the Five Phases of Chinese Philosophy. This class includes training in the open hand methods, self-defense, joint locks, throws and takedowns, sparring, push hands, self-cultivation through meditation and breathing practices, and the traditional Xing Yi weapons; spear, scimitar, straight sword, daggers, and great pole.
This is the traditional approach from China that focuses on flowing movements related to the philosophical ideas of Yin and Yang. There are two classes presented with this method. One is a class using the Yang Family Style which focuses on gentle restorative movements which build flexibility, strength, and maximize health. The other class draws on the Qingcheng Mountain Tradition’s Taiji Quan and includes training in self-defense, push hands, and weapons including the broadsword, straight sword, and the Wind Fire Wheels.
This is a traditional Chinese approach to health and wellness. This method incorporates, stretching and breathing techniques to maximize the health and vitality. Our class focuses on techniques form several traditions including the Qingcheng Mountain tradition of Qigong, the Niikura Ki Breathing System, and the Kwangchul Gong method. These methods are sometimes called “Chinese Yoga” and are often referred to as the “Elixir of Immortality” due to their strong rejuvenating benefits.
These are the traditional weapon arts of China. Shi Ba Ji means the “18 Weapons” and refers to the variety of weapons practiced at the Shaolin Monastery and throughout China. The weapons are broadly divided into short range and long range weapons, as well as bladed and blunt weapons. The training in these weapons helps balance, flexibility, concentration, and coordination. These can also be used as a moving meditation. Bing Ji refers to the traditional military weapons of China. These are often practiced to increase discipline, strength, coordination and power.
This approach is focused on real-world self-defense which is fast to learn and easily applied. Using scenario training in concert with striking, kicking, takedowns, and escapes, this class trains the students to evade, escape, and survive violent attacks. In today’s complicated world, this class is a must- have for anyone concerned about safety and security. This course is taught in an intensive seminar format. This class is designed for students with challenges such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, including Asperger’s Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and severe Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The class uses martial arts approaches to build neuro-cognitive competencies in proprioceptive response as well as sequential and hierarchical task assignment abstraction response. Dr. Jackowicz has used his medical background in conjunction with his martial arts background to design a curriculum for the Special Needs community which uses safe, enjoyable exercise to bring benefits to the students’ health and well-being.

This class is a specialized aspect of Tactical Combative Approaches (TCA) / Self Defense which focuses specifically on the issues facing women in today’s world. This class trains women to identify threats and respond efficiently and effectively to real world situations. The emphasis in this class is avoiding and escaping violent situations to stay safe and protected at all times. This course is taught in an intensive seminar format. Bullying hurts. It causes psychological and emotional scars that can last a lifetime. Regardless of whether your child is the victim of bullying, or the one doing it, low self esteem is usually the source, and will eventually lead to poor school performance, depression and labeling.
Classical Martial Arts of Long Island has the solution. Our program builds physical, mental and emotional strength, while our students learn both self respect, and respect for others. Children who believe in themselves not only make poor targets for bullies, they learn to stand up and "find their voice." At the same time, children who were inclined towards bullying learn they don't need to intimidate others to feel self worth.
This is the method developed by Bruce Lee which draws from various martial arts to help students find a unique approach expressing their own talents in a personalized way. This approach is based in principles which the student examines to find expression through their body. Experiential drills are used to uncover one’s martial awareness and develop the qualities necessary to excel in a martial encounter and in life. This method is challenging to students with no prior martial arts experience. At Classical Martial Arts of Long Island, we offer Jeet Kune Do training only in private and semi-private classes.
