As part of our comprehensive curriculum, we offer a variety of traditional Chinese martial arts including Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Shuai Jiao, Bagua Zhang, Xing Yi Quan & Shi Ba Ji / Bing Ji.

Classical Martial Arts of Long Island Kung Fu

Kung Fu

This is a blend of Shaolin Quanfa, Shuai Jiao, Chin Na, Yuanming Gong, and Xing Yi Quan. This class focuses on martial approaches from China that use punches, kicks, throws, joint locks, and grappling groundwork. Additionally we study Shi Ba Ji and Jian Dao which are the ancient weapons of China, including the staff, saber, fan, three section staff, rattan shield, Guan Dao, spear, and straight sword.


Classical Martial Arts of Long Island Wing Chun Kung Fu

Wing Chun Kung Fu

This is a traditional Southern Kung Fu style made popular by Bruce Lee and the Yip Man movies. This method is a no nonsense direct approach devoted to surviving a violent encounter. The class is taught in the traditional format with a very exacting approach. Wing Chun Kung Fu includes punches, kicks, joint locks, take downs, and weapons.


Shuai Jiao

This is a traditional Chinese type of wrestling. This art focuses on throwing and take downs in concert with strategic strikes and kicks. This method dates into Chinese ancient history and is not well known outside of China. This class is an intense workout The class focuses on self-defense as well as competitive Chinese wrestling skills.


Bagua Zhang

This is the traditional approach from the Qingcheng Mountain Tradition of China focused on flowing movements that correlate with the Eight Trigrams of the Yi Jing Book of Changes. This class includes training in the open hand methods, self-defense, joint locks, throws and takedowns, sparring, push hands, self-cultivation through meditation and breathing practices, and the eight traditional weapons; deer antler daggers, sun moon daggers, great sword, paired swords, whip, meteor hammers, chain whip, and great pole.


Xing Yi Quan

This is the traditional approach from the Qingcheng Mountain Tradition of China focused on flowing movements that correlate with the Five Phases of Chinese Philosophy. This class includes training in the open hand methods, self-defense, joint locks, throws and takedowns, sparring, push hands, self-cultivation through meditation and breathing practices, and the traditional Xing Yi weapons; spear, scimitar, straight sword, daggers, and great pole.


Classical Martial Arts of Long Island Shi Ba Ji / Bing JI

Shi Ba Ji / Bing Ji

These are the traditional weapon arts of China. Shi Ba Ji means the “18 Weapons” and refers to the variety of weapons practiced at the Shaolin Monastery and throughout China. The weapons are broadly divided into short range and long range weapons, as well as bladed and blunt weapons. The training in these weapons helps balance, flexibility, concentration, and coordination. These can also be used as a moving meditation. Bing Ji refers to the traditional military weapons of China. These are often practiced to increase discipline, strength, coordination and power.


Classical Martial Arts of Long Island Xing Yi Quan

Jeet Kune Do

This is the method developed by Bruce Lee which draws from various martial arts to help students find a unique approach expressing their own talents in a personalized way. This approach is based in principles which the student examines to find expression through their body. Experiential drills are used to uncover one’s martial awareness and develop the qualities necessary to excel in a martial encounter and in life. This method is challenging to students with no prior martial arts experience. At Classical Martial Arts of Long Island, we offer Jeet Kune Do training only in private and semi-private classes.
